The title of the article I chose to do my research assignment on is “Sexually Transmitted Diseases Among American Youth: Incidence and Prevalence Estimates.” This article talks about the toll that STDs have taken on the youth of America. The article gives an estimate of youth ages 15-24 from the year 2000 for the incidence and prevalence of STDs. The outcome of the article was to inform people of the percentage of youth that get an STD as well as let people know that a lot of the data could be wrong, due to people going undiagnosed or doctors/workplaces neglecting to write down the information needed to make the data realistic. In order to find this article, I went onto Google and searched articles on sexually transmitted diseases. I looked through a lot of articles before I was able to find this one, which seems to be the most credible of the ones I had previously seen. It was kind of hard to find this article due to the fact that a lot of websites did not have official articles, they were just thing people wrote on their webpage. This article seems to have been posted in a book or in some official webpage, unlike the other ones.
I believe that my article is a primary source. What makes this article a primary source is that it was written by the people who actually went and looked dup the data from each state and calculated it to make the data table that is presented in the article. This article would have a specific use. Although it is an older article, it would be able to educate people in safe sex. It has data about how many people have contracted certain sexual diseases and it could show them that practicing safe sex is the best way to go so that they don’t end up with any of these diseases as well. I could use this information in a sex education class in a high school setting. A lot of teens do not know about safe sex, and it would kind of scare them a little into making the right decision to use condoms when they are engaging in sexual behaviors.
